Missouri Boys After
Second Half Title

ST. LOUIS, July 12 - The St. Louis Stars went into first place in the second half of the National league race this week by taking four straight games from the Memphis Red Sox while the Detroit Stars took a double header from Kansas City Monday afternoon and the Cuban Stars let the American Giants down with one hit and shut them out 3 to 0 on the same day.
Detroit won another from Kansas City Tuesday. Jim Taylor, with his team much strengthened with J. Russell back on second base, comes to Chicago Saturday for five games which will have a direct bearing on the outcome of the second half. The Mound City team was never in such good shape, and ate out to get into the play-off in September and win the right to represent the West in the little world series against the winner of the Eastern league race.
St. Louis, July 8 - The St. Louis Stars defeated the Memphis Red Sox, 6 to 4, in the opening game of the second half of the National league schedule.
Davis pitched for the Stars and had one bad inning, the sixth, when the Red Sox tied the score with three runs on three doubles and a single.
A triple and a single scored the other Red Sox run in the second inning. The Stars scored once in the second on a home run by Wells. In the third inning they added another run on a single by J. Russell and Jim Bell's two-base hit.
In the fourth the Stars scored two runs on a double by Redus, a triple by Creacy and H. Williams' infield single. The winning run was put over in the eighth inning and one added for good measure. Two runs scored on successive singles by B. Russell, Bobo, Wells and Creacy. It was the sixth straight victory for the Stars.

St. Louis, Mo. July 9. - The St. Louis Stars captured both games of a double-header from the Memphis Red Sox here on Saturday, giving them eight straight victories and three in a row in the second half. The score in the first game was 2 to 1 and in the second game 9 to 6.
In the first game a home run by Wells with a man on base in the sixth inning proved the winning blow. The Memphians' lone tally came in the fourth inning when Rodgers connected for a home run. Trent held the Red Sox to six scattered hits and fanned six batters. Tyler was also a good pitcher, yielding five hits, but was unfortunate in having a base tenanted when Wells made his home run and again in having the paths vacant when Rodgers hit for the circuit.
In the second game the Stars pounded three pitchers. Wells after winning the first game with a home run made two of these drives in the second game. B. Russell, Redus and H. Williams also made homers for the Stars, while Rodgers repeated his first game performance by knocking one for the loop. J. Williams allowed 17 hits, but the majority of these came late in the contest after the Stars had sewed up the game.

St. Louis, July 10. - The St. Louis Stars defeated the Memphis Red Sox in the fourth game on Sunday at Stars park to make a clean sweep of the four-game series.
It was the ninth straight victory for the Stars.
A five-fun rally in the sixth inning, during which Creacy and J. Bell hit home runs, put the game in the win column for the Stars. J. Bell's home run drove in the winning run.
The Red Sox batted McDonald hard in the sixth when they found him for five singles to score three runs and take a two-run lead. Wells furnished the fielding feature in the ninth inning when he raced behind second to knock down Welsey's bid for a hit and followed with a perfect throw to retire the batter at first.
Miller also entered the limelight with a great catch of Wells' line drive in the first inning and turned it into an unassisted double play. H. Williams and J. Bell led the hitters with three hits in four times at bat.
